How to Achieve Fast and Accurate Cost Calculation for Stamping Parts
At the 2024 BME Value Day conference, Thomas Eckert, Cost Management Purchasing at Brose Group, and Jakob Etzel, VP of Customer Success at Tset, shared expert insights into stamping parts calculation. In this article, we will highlight the key takeaways from their presentation, showcasing how Tset's innovative software is revolutionizing the manufacturing industry.
Addressing Industry Challenges
The speakers highlighted two critical challenges facing the manufacturing sector today: the risk of losing expert knowledge due to retirements, and the need to integrate CO₂ emissions as a "second currency" in product development.
Tset cost and carbon estimation software addresses these challenges by centralizing expertise within a robust central knowledge database and integrating carbon footprint calculations into its software. This dual approach ensures valuable know-how is preserved and sustainability becomes a core part of decision-making processes.

Tset's Innovative Approach
Granular Supply Chain Cost Calculation
Tset software offers a bottom-up approach to cost calculation, breaking down manufacturing processes into detailed steps. It accounts for machine specifications, cycle times, and setup durations, paired with real-world cost drivers such as labor, energy, facility expenses, and more. This detailed method provides manufacturers with an accurate, end-to-end view of their production costs.
3D Models Implementation
One of the standout features of Tset is its ability to analyze 3D files and generate automated suggestions. By uploading a 3D model, the system proposes manufacturing steps, material usage, and tooling layouts, significantly accelerating the calculation process. This automation not only saves time but also minimizes the risk of human error during the planning phase, thereby ensuring precision and efficiency.
Flexibility and Seamless Integration
Tset’s key strength lies in its flexibility and compatibility with diverse supply chain needs. Its ability to incorporate supplier-specific data ensures calculations are tailored to each company’s unique requirements. The software also provides real-time updates to adapt to shifting market conditions, enabling businesses to stay competitive.
Furthermore, Tset offers integration with existing ERP, CAD, and PLM systems through building custom interfaces. This approach ensures optimal integration with each client's unique system environment.
Tset in Action: Optimizing Airbag Component Costs with Tset Stamping Calculation Module
During the presentation, Jakob Etzel demonstrated Tset’s capabilities by calculating the production cost of an airbag component in real-time using the stamping calculation module. Upon uploading the 3D file, the software generated automatic suggestions for material usage, tooling layouts, and manufacturing steps. After optimizing the process using Tset, the cost was reduced from an initial €0.72 to €0.53 per part. Simultaneously, the software also calculated CO₂ emissions for both production variants.
Conclusion
As the manufacturing landscape continues to evolve, tools like Tset’s are becoming essential for maintaining competitiveness while advancing sustainability objectives. By delivering fast, detailed, and reliable results, Tset empowers businesses to make informed decisions that balance economic goals with environmental considerations.
