Alois Flatz invests in European high-tech and high-growth companies with impact. He has been involved in sustainable investments since the 1990s and is a co-founder of the Dow Jones Sustainability Index, the world's leading stock index for sustainable investment. In addition to his entrepreneurial successes, he also provides his expertise as an active member of various supervisory boards. In the following text, Alois explains why he is involved with Tset and what the greening of society has to do with it.

Why are you involved with Tset? What caught your interest in Tset?

As a rule, I invest in a start-up and want to achieve not only an economic return, but also a social and ecological impact. And Tset meets these criteria entirely. Tset is an example of how I can develop products that are more circular by reducing the C02 emissions of a product over its life cycle.

With a start-up, the technological, as well as the commercial, implementation is crucial. At Tset, it is therefore extremely valuable that we can draw on the experience of Andreas Tsetinis, who has already built up several companies and knows the market. These are ideal foundations.

Why is Tset relevant - in the industry and society in general?

Tset provides product developers a software to see the impact of design decisions on costs and CO2 emissions.

Tset is a tool we have been waiting for for 30 years. When I wrote my dissertation at St. Gallen in the 1990s, I already stated: To establish a circular economy, we have to start with the design of the product. But at that time we had neither the necessary information about the C02 emissions of a product or its individual parts, nor the pricing or the databases that could have calculated this.

Andreas Tsetinis and Sasan Hashemi have now brought together new technological possibilities: a software that is cloud-based, built on fast databases, and shows the effects of design decisions for product developers in real time. And that's Tset's big shot.

Where do you see the biggest challenges the industry has to face?

The most efficient point for greening society and economic life is through pricing. If the price of imported goods takes into account the actual C02 emissions, this cost can be claimed from the exporting country. For this, every product needs a corresponding CO2 statement.  And this can be developed with a solution like the Tset software.
